A note from your college nurse, Glenys:

COVID-19: What to do if you do catch COVID-19

Some people with this viral illness have few or even no symptoms. For most, it is a mild illness but some may develop respiratory complications. Everyone is different.

Most people will develop a fever and a persistent dry cough which is worse at night when lying down. Some people complain of a headache and aching muscles and some find their chest is tight or may have shortness of breath. The illness should subside after 2 weeks with some people feeling better sooner.

Treatment

There is no treatment to cure a viral illness, but you can treat the symptoms to make yourself more comfortable. For fever, headache or muscle pain take Paracetamol. 1g 4-6 hourly (no more than 8 500mg tablets in 24 hours. For the cough, sleep propped up with more pillows, take a cough linctus and drink warm drinks with added honey. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water.

Worsening Symptoms?

Should the shortness of breath become more severe, phone 111 for advice.

Above all

Wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds. Self - isolate for 7 days if you have symptoms. Don't touch your face and practice social distancing. Ensure that you clean up after using the kitchen or bathroom. Wipe door handles etc and mobile phones regularly with an antibacterial wipe.

Keep well and keep safe!
